How Basepin Works

Basepin offers the construction industry a highly effective method for managing Mechanical Electrical Plumbing Structural (MEPS) Design Coordination.

The Basepin System represents a paradigm shift from traditional methods used to handle design coordination issues. Traditional project management methods that rely on RFI's (Request For Information) can become bogged down in bureaucratic red tape causing delays and increased costs. The Basepin System relies on MEPS Team collaboration, CAD technology and web-based software to track and resolve design conflicts. Issues are often resolved in hours rather than weeks.

Best yet, Basepin's powerful system is best utilized starting at the beginning-with the Schematic Design phase and continuing through the Design Development, Construction Documents, MEPS Coordination, Closeout, Asset Management and Tenant Improvement phases. This allows all project issues to be entered into Basepin right from the start and keeps updated drawings organized and easy to find throughout the life cycle of the project.

MEPS Coordination helps deliver fully coordinated Construction Documents to your field crews.

As most contractors know, Construction Documents often lack detailed information required to perform work on a project. Not only does this represent a risk to all parties, but this also results in numerous delays and additional costs while sub-contractors wait for answers to their questions and approval for the changes.

Basepin changes all of that by helping the MEPS team effectively deal with these unknowns through collaborative review of the Construction Documents before they go to the field crews.

During these review sessions, the entire team, including the Architect, General Contractor and Mechanical Electrical Plumbing Fire Protection (MEPF) sub-contractors review the Superplot drawings, identify conflicts, enter them into the Basepin issues log, find resolutions, and update the drawings. The end result is a set of final Construction Documents that truly are as complete as possible. In addition, the latest CAD drawings are easy to find and use thanks to a simple naming system that keeps everything well organized.

Basepin eliminates unnecessary RFI's.

The Basepin System begins by separating conflicts into two categories, coordination and design. Coordination issues are resolved by the General Contractor and MEPF sub-contractors. Design issues are resolved by the Architect and Design Consultants. In either case, conflicts are eliminated before construction begins.

The high volume of RFI documents is drastically reduced, meaning people can focus on building the project rather than managing the paper. RFI's are used to track scope changes only.

If contractors need to initiate an RFI because their scope of work will change, they use Basepin's web-based interface to let users know that an RFI has been written for a particular issue. When a MEPS member writes an RFI, the work scope impacted, such as cost and schedule, are routed to the project management team. RFI's are tracked with the system currently provided by the architect or general contractor. When an RFI is generated, it is the responsibility of the closer to check that any RFI's associated with the issue have been answered and are reflected in the CAD drawings.

Basepin is committed to making sure solutions are ultimately seen in the construction documents. Too often project teams meet and resolve problems, but fail to verify that the construction documents are kept up-to-date. When this happens, the budget is spent fixing a problem that happens anyway.

Basepin's Closer function places accountability on team leaders to certify that changes are seen in the construction documents. This meets the goal of delivering fully coordinated drawings to field installation crews.
